The Idea

There are many aspects to the survival of nonprofit organizations.  The first, that usually come to mind, are the volunteers.  Naturally, without their persistence and enthusiasm the nonprofit will not survive.  As a community we often recognize these wonderful people for the work and service that they provide.

This website, however,  recognizes another aspect that is detrimental to the survival of nonprofit organizations:

The BUSINESSES who donate merchandise, services and/or gift certificates.

Why

Many local businesses are inundated with hundreds of requests from local nonprofits to donate something for fundraising purposes.  Many businesses have to hire people to deal with all the requests.  It is not easy sorting through all the applications and handling the logistics of the donated merchandise or gift certificates.

The advertising that they usually get in exchange is nominal.  Most, do not donate because they think they will get more customers (although there is nothing wrong with that), they donate because they really care about their communities.

What

This site was formed to celebrate those businesses.  Here we will list the businesses who help different organizations.  We will link back to their sites (if they have one) and thus increase their link popularity (something that all businesses need).  This is a way to give back and say

Thank you, we care too!

The first organization that BusinessesWhoCare.com chose to feature is  The Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM).  WAMM is a Santa Cruz, California health collective of mostly terminally ill patients and caregivers, they are often referred to as a hospice cooperative.  The group works to educate the general public regarding the medical benefits of marijuana, and to insure that patients, who have a recommendation from their physician, have safe access to legal, natural supply of Marijuana for the treatment of terminal and debilitating illness.

The reason BusinessesWhoCare.com chose WAMM is because they are an example of an organization that is so supported by it's local community that the whole county and city of Santa Cruz, CA. joined WAMM in an unprecedented lawsuit against the federal government in order to try and keep WAMM operational (for more details visit SantaCruzVsAshcroft.com).

Please help us salute the businesses who have helped keep WAMM afloat.  Please visit these business websites and order their products or use their services.  Oh, and don't forget to mention that you saw them on BusinessesWhoCare.com!

If you know of a nonprofit organization that would like to be featured on this site please email the information here
